 The tournament will be held on the University of Alabama campus. With a guaranteed prize fund of $2,500, the tournament is expected to draw more than 100 chess players from Alabama and surrounding states to compete for prize money and the prestige of being the Alabama State Chess Champion. The opening round of the championship tournament will begin at 7:15 p.m. on Friday at the Ridgecrest South Residence Hall. Three rounds will be played on Saturday and two on Sunday, after which awards will be presented. A one-day tournament strictly for scholastic players (ages 5-18) will be offered in parallel on Saturday, Sept. 18. Scholastic players will play for trophies.
