Our family decided to make a BIG change around this time last year, one which is finally coming to fruition in the next few months. We agreed to expand our family through adoption! As many of you know, our son Will is a teenager (14) and Anna is 11 years old, so the decision to adopt a little girl under three will certainly be a big life change...one we are looking forward to immeasurably.
The process of adopting our new daughter from Russia has been an interesting, sometimes difficult, one thus far. There has been what seems like never ending amounts of paperwork, three sets of fingerprints, medical exams and teetering emotions as we wait to meet this little girl and bring her home to be part of our family. But the time is finally drawing near and we’ve been told that our first trip will probably be in February or March. After working towards this goal for more than a year, Jason and I are ready to take our journey (which will actually consist of three trips to Moscow) and experience all that it holds for us and our children. We are most excited about placing our love on this baby girl who has never known the love of a Mom and Dad and the blessing of being part of a real family. Please pray for us as this journey continues and we’ll keep you updated along the way!
Now, on to the January issue of Montgomery Parents, which has absolutely nothing to do with my above announcement. (We just couldn’t wait any longer to share the news with you!) This month is our Annual Private School Issue, which is an important resource each year for parents considering this option for their children. We have an article on evaluating and choosing the right school, plus our 2012 River Region Private School Guide. You’ll find details here on local schools to help you narrow down your search. Please pay special attention to our private school advertisers throughout this section.
Also, if you are thinking it’s time to move your toddler from his crib to a “big kid” bed, be sure to read Goodbye, Crib to find tips for a smooth toddler bed transition. And if the cold months ahead make you and your kids restless for something to do, you’ll discover fun winter crafts and activities in the article, Mom, I’m Bored.
Finally, we are introducing a new monthly column written by a woman many of you may already be familiar with, Marla Cilley, the FlyLady. With her popular website for women, the FlyLady has gained national recognition and her column in Montgomery Parents will “guide you through baby steps to help you set up routines, get rid of your clutter, and put your home and life in order.” Now that sounds like a perfect way to start the New Year!

For many people, the New Year signifies a fresh start to accomplishing goals we’ve had in mind for quite a while, but haven’t yet achieved. For others, it’s a time of reflection and evaluation, which might lead us to embark on a big, life change of some kind. Whichever category you fall under, CHANGE is the common idea behind New Year’s decisions, and really, making decisions in general.
