With spring break right around the corner, the end of the school year won’t be far behind. And with summer on the way, you’re probably beginning to wonder what activities your children will take part in during the break. Summer can easily be a time when laziness, too much television, and excessive comments about boredom rule the long days. However, with the multitude of day camps in the River Region and residential camps in other parts of the southeast, there’s no reason for this to be the case.
As always, our Annual Camp Issue offers a detailed listing of camps for a range of interests and budgets, including sports, arts, acting, gymnastics, and horseback riding, just to name a few. You’ll also find residential camps ranging from two or three days away from home to four or six weeks. Further, we’ve listed spring break camps coming to the area and registration is beginning now. Keeping our kids active and interested during the summer months can make the season more enjoyable for the whole family.
The teen years are a particularly important time to keep your kids not only active, but close by. Making your home an inviting place for your teen to “hang out” with his friends not only keeps you aware of what kind of friends he is choosing, it also helps the two of you stay more connected, even as he moves further towards total independence. In Jennifer Gregory’s article, “Feed Them and They Will Come,” she offers advice on how to make your home a fun place to be so your teen will spend more time there, rather than elsewhere.
If your raising little ones and Easter is on your mind already, we’ve got a fun article for you. Martha Wegner shares creative, new ideas for coloring eggs and more in her article, “Easter’s On It’s Way.” Be sure to take a look at her recipe for an easy Easter Bunny Cake!
Family friendly events are gearing up as the weather warms this month. Spring is always a fabulous time for fun in the River Region. Check out Bits and Pieces and the Family Calendar to find out what’s happening. A few to make special note of are Annie at the Montgomery Performing Arts Center, the 53rd Annual Southeast Livestock Rodeo, plus Ringling Brothers Circus at the Garrett Coliseum! From Our Family to Yours--Have a Wonderful Month!
